2008 Spring Conference Presentations 1) “There’s more to Leadership than Delegation” Melinda Schmidt CTM, CL velvet@techsorcery.com 716-825-4739 Introducer: Andrew Schmidt Description: Have you thought you might be interested in taking a club or District leadership role – if you knew more about what the role entails? Have you ever wondered what the DCP program was all about? Do you even wonder what the acronym ‘DCP’ means? This class will discuss, in detail, what is involved with being a leader of Toastmasters. You will learn about the Goals handed down by TI, how to set your own Goals, how to put a Plan together and how to check to make sure you are on track with your goals. Plan to succeed by taking a few minutes to focus on your goals and decide what steps you will take to accomplish them. While this class is intended for Club leaders and District leaders, these goal planning techniques apply to every facet of your life. However, conflicts do not have to be negative events; conflicts can actually be beneficial if they are resolved correctly. This presentation will discuss reasons why conflicts occur, and describe five methods of resolving conflicts. These are: avoiding, competing, accommodating, compromising, and collaborating. Unlike some presentations on conflict resolution, this presentation shows there is no single best method for resolving conflicts. All five methods may be useful in certain situations, but each one does have its drawbacks. At the end of this class, participants will be able to understand the nature of conflicts and how to successfully resolve them.
